Press launches are always an exciting time to work in the building, bringing together various departments such as Press, Marketing, Box Office, Hospitality and Technical to create the perfect event to launch a show.

Yesterday we welcomed the cast and creative team behind the brand new production of ‘Wonderful Town’ to Birmingham Hippodrome for an exclusive launch with invited members of the Media, Friends of the theatre and Group Bookers. When an event comes together like it did yesterday afternoon it’s a great way of seeing what a brilliant team of people we have both working at the Hippodrome and supporting it. Our loyal Friends and Group Bookers turned out in force to be treated to a fabulous insight into this brand new production the show’s creatives including producers  Kenny Wax and Lee Menzies who brought Top Hat to the theatre last year.  And artistic director of Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre, Braham Murray who will direct the show.

The ever lovely Connie Fisher spoke honestly about her battle to save her voice after suffering with a rare vocal condition and gave a great performance alongside her fellow cast members – this is certainly  a production to look out for! I must admit I didn’t really know all that much about Wonderful Town before yesterday but I’m  now convinced it will be just that, Wonderful! Events like this simply wouldn’t be possible without our great Friends of the theatre and Group Bookers, a big thank you to all.

In 2003 Wonderful Town enjoyed a fantastic revival on Broadway, here’s one of our favourites from the show taken from the 2004 Tony Awards to give you a taster. The production is also based on the novel and film, My Sister Eileen which featured choreography by Bob Fosse, known for his trademark complex routines and dazzling movement – click here to see some of his choreography at it’s best in the movie on which the show is based.
