Work on the new stage…

Here at Birmingham Hippodrome we want to say a great big thank you to everyone who has helped us by donating and fundraising towards the successful completion of our Stage Appeal having raised the target of £1m towards the extensive refurbishments costing over £2m. Many people forget that we are an independent, not-for-profit registered charity (No. 510842) and without your generous support this would not have been possible.

Our 30-year old stage was completely replaced, over 500 light-fittings were upgraded to LED, the orchestra pit was refurbished, and the entrance foyer was remodelled with a new box office, cloakroom, digital signage and new heat-efficient front doors – a very busy four weeks indeed!

We also owe a great deal of thanks to Grant-making Trusts and Foundations who contributed over two-thirds of the funds with significant generous donations from the

Monument Trust (part of the Sainsbury Family Trusts), the Wolfson Foundation, The Garfield Weston Foundation, The Foyle Foundation and The JP Getty Jr Charitable Trust.  Twenty-one further local trusts also went the extra mile in helping us achieve these vital refurbishments in order for us to remain a stage for the best in the world.

Funds were also raised from the corporate sector, including donations at special events and gala dinners, totalling just over £165,000.

Donations from you, our loyal members of the audience, and local community organisations now exceed £173,000 but there is still time for anyone wishing to make a last minute contribution to the total project costs before the end of January 2013, just give us a call on 0844 338 5000.

Once again, THANK YOU from everyone at the theatre – here’s to the next 30 years!
