Top marks for Top Hat & Curious Incident…

As the glitz and glamour of last night’s Olivier Awards fades into the background for another year, we are sending our friends at Top Hat a huge congratulations on their three wins at this year’s ceremony.

The production, which played here at Birmingham Hippodrome as it’s second ever venue, won accolades for Best Costume Design, Best Theatre Choreographer and the esteemed award for Best New Musical – I couldn’t think of a more worthy winner!

Our colleagues at London’s National Theatre also enjoyed a tremendous evening with an outstanding 7 awards for their production of the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime including Best New Play – brilliant news and well done to one and all. The National’s production of War Horse, which won 2 Oliviers back in 2008 and an incredible 6 Tony Awards in New York, comes right here to Birmingham in October and is a show that all of us here at the Hippodrome can’t wait to play host to – tickets are galloping out of the box office quicker than you can say “sugar lump” so be sure to book up early, you simply ‘canter’ miss it (sorry).

Talking of the Tony Awards, as one theatre ceremony is over another just begins, nominations for this year’s Tonys are announced tomorrow with the RSC’s production of Matilda a hot tip to wipe the board – who do you think will be nominated this year? All will be revealed tomorrow…
