Save the date for a host of free theatre…

Ben Wooldridge (@benwooldridge) writes…

The last few weeks have seen some delightfully fantastic weather come to Birmingham and this August we also have something equally delightful for summer as we host a range of FREE live performances in and around the Southside district surrounding Birmingham Hippodrome.

Next Saturday (3 Aug) will see our first day of activity and I thought we would give you a sneek peek at some of the excellent performances we have coming up…

One of the highlights of the day is sure to be C-12 Dance Theatre’s Trolleys, a high-energy dance performance which uses supermarket shopping trolleys in a way that you have never seen before combining dance with awesome acrobatics. Take a look at the trailer below to see more and hear from audience members who have experienced it for themselves…

Trolleys is just one of the extraordinary events planned for the day, Kuljit Bhamra’s Chutney will see a strolling street band come to Southside as they spread the carnival spirit whilst Con Tatto by Da Motus welcomes a colourful host of eight swiss dancers who create dynamic shapes and interact with the people and places in the area.

Nocturne by Marc Brew Company is a beautiful, dreamy dance piece which draws spectactors into the home lives of four dancers sharing their dreams whilst Falling Up by Mimbre thrusts a high-energy performance into the space featuring flying, falling and incredible feats of strength from four women.

Joli Vyann will be presenting two dance performances, Don’t Drink and Dance and H2H which are sure to catch your eye and keep the whole family entertained – have a look at the trailer below to get a feel for what to expect…

As you may have guessed, we have a packed day of entertainment and fun lined up! Please do join us from 1pm-7pm August 3 and join in…

The fun continues on Sat 24 & Sun 25 Aug with more Summer in Southside events – more info here:
