Roll up, roll up – do we have an action packed weekend full of performance for you!? And the best thing is…it’s all for FREE!
This Bank Holiday, the streets and squares around Birmingham Hippodrome will once again be transformed as we host a kaleidoscope of circus, dance and puppetry in the concluding weekend of Summer in Southside.
One of the biggest spectacles of the weekend is sure to be Graeae’s The Iron Man which will see a huge 20ft iron giant roam the streets of Southside in a compelling story for the entire family. Find out more about this extraordinary performance in the video below…
Another major event will be the return of the fabulous NoFit State Circus with a host of interactive workshops where you can join in and run away with the circus as well as watching the professionals turn their hand to incredible feats of acrobatics and stunts.
Midlands based Motionhouse will add a contemporary twist to the day with their highly-physical Captive as they twist and turn around a huge steel cage.
Physical theatre company, Upswing will bring more dance to the day in a unique mix of circus and dance as they re-tell some famous grim and glorious fairytales. Take a look at a sneek peek of the performance here…
Tumbling into Southside are the amazing Black Eagles, a breathtaking troupe of acrobats coming to Birmingham direct from Tanzania.
Guests in the Arcadian Centre are welcomed to come and make a flower and transform the centre into a garden, acts in the area will also include the Shanghai Tea Shop and the Jitterbug Squad, Rock a Hula, Mr Wilson Second Liners roaming band, Tea Club and the Roaming Pot Heads.
Last but not least, the entire family is encouraged to get stuck in with a host of arts and crafts workshops with plenty of cutting, sticking and glitter!
The sun is set to shine so make sure to join us this Saturday 24 (1-7pm) and Sunday 25 (1-5pm) Aug for plenty of free family fun!
