Raising the curtain on 2014…

We want to wish all of our Birmingham Hippodrome Blog readers a very Happy New Year!

All of us here at the theatre can’t wait for a jam-packed 2014 full of dance, comedy, opera and plenty of musicals…

Dance highlights of the season are set to include the annual return of Matthew Bourne with his infamous retelling of Swan Lake, Birmingham Royal Ballet’s premiere of The Prince of the Pagodas PLUS the very exciting arrival of IDFB 2014 featuring international dance at it’s best including the return of ballet star Sylvie Guillem and New Adventures & RE:Bourne’s stunning Lord of the Flies.

Opera also takes centre stage in 2014 as WNO return with sensational seasons of both classic and contemporary performance as well as the arrival of the Mariinsky Theatre with a truly landmark event, Richard Wagner’s The Ring Cycle.

Plenty of laughs are sure to be had with the arrival of comedian Russell Brand and the live stage show of BBC Radio’s I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue plus the National Theatre’s five-star hit One Man, Two Guvnors.

Finally, some of the world’s most beloved and famous musicals come to Birmingham including a new production Fiddler on the Roof, 12,000 litres of water at every performance of Singin’ in the Rain,  two of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s biggest hits Evita & Cats, the new musical Happy Days, Buddy,  the return of Blood Brothers and not forgetting the huge West End hit, Wicked which flies in for the summer.
