I.T Database Manager, Scott Whitehouse updates us on Birmingham Hippodrome’s brand-new mobile website…
It’s hard to think of life now without a smartphone or tablet. I only need to look around on my morning commute with everyone’s head buried into their mobile devices to see that times have changed.
Here at the Hippodrome we can see that our customers use a variety of devices when navigating to our websites, but as our ticketing website grows old, it struggled to offer a complete service to our customers.
In 2013, over 650,000 website visits were made using a mobile or tablet and we believe that this number will only get higher, so we’ve spent the last few months investing in a new product to cope with the demand and provide a more complete solution for everyone.
This week we launched our new mobile website, which will automatically redirect you to m.birminghamhippodrome.com on your portable device. Getting the balance right between being mobile-friendly and having meaningful content is difficult, but we believe we have hit the spot with this! The website uses up-to-date web technology so that you can purchase tickets for productions, and it even lets you select the seats you want to sit in! You can see all the shows we have on sale, watch trailers, keep up with our social media platforms and find directions without ever leaving the site.
We have also begun to offer Print-at-Home tickets as an option on the mobile site. If selected at checkout, you will receive an email with your tickets attached, which can be printed out and brought with you on your visit – a much more environmentally friendly way of getting tickets to our customers.
To follow this up, we are also going to deploy an Apple iOS app and an Android app on the Google Play Store which gives the same functionality but a more natural experience to tie in with your device.
For us this is only the beginning. We will be rolling out even more functionality over the coming months to continually improve this experience and we welcome any feedback from you about the site so we can continue to improve our service.
Watch this space!
