International Dance Festival Birmingham is now well under way, bringing dance to stages and outdoor spaces across the city. One of the most exciting things about IDFB is that it brings some of the best artists in the world to the region and provides Midlands audiences to see stars of the dance world right on their doorstep.
Tonight, we welcome renowned dancer Sylvie Guillem, who the Daily Telegraph recently referred to as “ quite simply a dancer unlike any there has ever been”. This is a huge coup for the city as Ms Guillem performs her only UK dates this year right here in Birmingham with her series of solos and duets in 6000 Miles Away. Whilst Sylvie Guillem plays on the main stage, the Patrick Centre will host a world premiere of a new double bill from the acclaimed Aakash Odedra Company with Murmur and Inked. Both performances then play tomorrow night (7 May) too – don’t miss your chance to see them!
Moving on into later in the week, Birmingham REP then plays host to groundbreaking Montreal circus company Les 7 Doigts de la Main (The 7 Fingers) with some stunning feats acrobatics and circus skill from Thursday (8 May), then this Friday we host yet ANOTHER World Premiere in the Patrick Centre with Company Decalage’s Match & Halfway to the Other Side.
This week is one of the most exciting in the IDFB calendar, don’t miss out. For full information check out www.idfb.co.uk and don’t forget to mark the incredible FREE outdoor spectacular, B-TOWN in your diary from Wed 21 – Sat 24 May.
