Our Development team have been very busy since we were accepted into this year’s Big Give Christmas Challenge, as we attempt to raise £12,000 in less than 2 days this December!
The Big Give is supporting Hippodrome Heritage – this wonderful project will see us bring to life over 100 years of theatre history and make it accessible for the next generation. We’ll be gathering your memories and memorabilia to help us fill in the gaps, as well as devising and delivering history workshops with schoolchildren all across Birmingham.
Our aim is to raise £6,000 in less than 2 days this December to help fund our heritage project. You can donate here from 12 noon on Fri 4 and Sat 5 December. Every donation made will be doubled, at no extra cost to you!
One of the driving forces behind Hippodrome Heritage is a committed group of fantastic Volunteers. Here’s what they have to say about the project…..
John, Heritage Volunteer
“The Birmingham Hippodrome Heritage Project is important to me as it is a chance to preserve vital details of Birmingham’s theatrical history and make it available to a wider audience. The Hippodrome is one of the lucky theatres to have survived the bombing and demolition suffered by other theatres in Birmingham. Please do help make the past available for the future.”
Paul, Heritage Volunteer
“In these days of instant reality and mundane celebrity, the theatre is even more important than ever. But equally so, is how it came to be. The history, the background, the shows and the stars… real stars not just 24hr reality “flash in the pans”. That’s why the Heritage Project is vital to the theatres and indeed our own history.
“Working on the digitisation of the growing archive collection, I have been fascinated by the diversity of entertainment from early circus acts to international legends! But there are still so many gaps from the history to fill. Do you have a missing piece you could donate to our jigsaw of historical importance?
“Please check your drawers and attics and make a donation to our living Heritage Project or why not donate a few pounds to help maintain the archive, then contact us to find out how. Not only are you assisting in our heritage, but you are becoming a part of the history too!”
Fiona, Heritage Volunteer
“Until I started volunteering for the project I never realised how important the history of the Hippodrome was. As an audience member for over 40 years I simply enjoyed the shows without thinking of its significance. The project means so much to me now, I value why it’s imperative that things are recorded and saved for future generations. I have met the most fantastic group of people who have added so much to my quality of life. We have a unique opportunity now to research and clarify the Hippodromes history for future generations.”
Please don’t forget to donate during The Big Give!
