Chief Executive Stuart Griffiths on the 2010 season

2010 will be one of the busiest years ever for Birmingham Hippodrome.    There will be many new touring productions from around the world including musicals, ballet, opera, comedy, dance, drama and the new Pantomime for 2010/11.

Our resident company Birmingham Royal Ballet celebrate twenty years in the city.   The relocation of a major performing company of this scale has not happened before or since in the UK and the visionary step taken by the city in 1990 (described in the press at the time as “the arts coup of the decade”) has ensured people in the West Midlands have had world-class ballet on their doorstep for two decades.

Large and loyal audiences from the beginning have shown how a city can take a company to its heart, supporting the highest levels of artistry and innovation from a company of artists, led by David Bintley, who live and work here. Birmingham Hippodrome is proud to be the company’s home.

Another major dance event in 2010 is the second International Dance Festival Birmingham.  Designed to bring the very best and the widest range of artists and companies from around the world to the city to perform and create new dance in collaboration with West Midlands-based artists.

In addition, you will also find some of the world’s most popular musical shows, great opera and one of the most popular plays of recent times – twice!   We look forward to welcoming you to the Hippodrome in 2010.
