FREE Summer Fun this August!

Roll up, roll up for more free Summer fun in the sun this August with another action-packed series of weekends from Summer in Southside!

This year promises to be bigger and better than ever before featuring over thirty companies and over 100 local, regional, national and international artists.We are promised a variety of spectacular and innovative performances from comedy, drama, contemporary dance, physical theatre, aerial dance, puppetry, hip hop, and audience participation.

Peter Knott, Area Director, Arts Council England, said: “Summer in Southside offers free performances over three weekends in Birmingham’s increasingly vibrant Southside. The programme promises unique and ambitious productions, from Coventry based Talking Birds theatre company to the internationally acclaimed Wired Aerial Theatre, I’m sure there’ll be something everyone will enjoy.”

Summer in Southside FREE events take place on Saturday 9 August; Saturday 16 August and Bank Holiday weekend Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 August between 1pm-7pm with a late night performance at 10pm on Saturday 23 August.

SUMMER IN SOUTHSIDE is supported by Southside BID, LCP (owners of the Arcadian), Without Walls, Arts Connect, Birmingham City Council Festivals Fund, and National Lottery through Arts Council England’s Grants for the arts scheme.

Illuminating Southside…

Here’s a big thank you from everyone at Birmingham Hippodrome to the thousands of people who attended this weekend’s Illuminate.

The weekend saw Birmingham’s Southside district come alive with shining sculpture, projection, dance and family fun!

One of the highlights and main draws of the weekend was the incredible Lanterns of the Terracotta Warriors Exhibition featuring over 80 glowing sculptures in Gallan Car Park at the bottom of Hurst Street.

Fire dancers and flame throwers also took to the streets to entertain families whilst a 360 degree igloo invited poeple for an immersive cinematic experience.
