Earlier this week we welcomed the full company of our pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk including our wonderful cast Jane McDonald (Enchantress) Duncan James (Jack), Chris Gascoyne (Fleshcreep), Gary Wilmot (Dame Trot), Paul Zerdin (Simple Simon) and Matt Slack (Silly Billy) with Robyn Mellor as Princess Apricot.
They started to arrive from last Sunday and once the set was finished being built the company went straight into rehearsals on stage.
At the moment (18 Dec pm) the first full technical run through is taking place to ensure everything works and everyone knows where they need to be on stage, from lighting to sets, to special effects and of course the amazing 3D. It really is going to be a big show!
Before the Tech we invited members of the media to attend a photocall on stage with the cast (look out for pictures in the Express and Star, Post and Mail, nationals and BBC Midlands Today).
Tonight the company perform their first full dress rehearsal and we can’t wait to see it.

Gok at BBC WM
As Panto season is very much still alive and kicking here at Birmingham Hippodrome, it’s not just on stage where our Panto stars are appearing. Over the past few days and coming weeks the likes of Gok Wan, John Partridge, Gary Wilmot and Danielle Hope are spreading the magic of Panto land in and around Birmingham promoting the show…
Yesterday myself and Gok Wan headed over to BBC WM for a live interview with Adrian Goldberg, discussing Gok’s first time in Panto and his experiences on the show. You can catch up with the full interview by clicking here.
Gary Wilmot transforms into the Dame
Next up, we were joined by Express and Star’s picture desk, video department and a journalist for a backstage peek with Gary Wilmot as he transforms himself into the Dame before the matinee performance. We joined Gary in his dressing room as he revealed the process from 1 hour before curtain up to his first entrance on stage. Look out for what should be a fantastic feature in the next few days…
Tomorrow, we then head over to Birmingham Childrens Hospital with our handsome Prince and beautiful Snow White, John Partridge and Danielle Hope, for a very special meet and greet with some of the children at the hospital as well as the presentation of a cheque for funds raised by our very generous audiences over the Christmas season.
There are plenty of other Press and PR activities planned over the coming weeks so keep your eye’s and ears peeled…
