Last night we played host to the official press night of Disney’s The Lion King as we welcomed members of the media to check out the show and share what has to be one of the biggest productions to ever play on our stage.

As you would expect, the reviews have been incredible with 5 Stars from Birmingham Mail and Express and Star saying “…it is hands down one of the most fantastic productions of all time.”

You can take a read of the full Express and Star review here and Birmingham Mail’s rave report here.

Blogs are also hot in hailing the arrival of the king with Birmingham Blogger Scott Bird saying “Of any of the shows you will see, the opening to The Lion King – The Circle Of Life is sure to be the most overwhelming experience you will ever have in a theatre” click here to read the full blog post.

Members of the media also took to the world of Twitter to share their thoughts with Heart FM’s Ed James commenting “The Lion King @brumhippodrome … Stunning, epic, awe inspiring and jaw dropping. Once is not enough! Loved every second!”. Read our full round up of some of our favourite Press Night tweets here.

After a full house and standing ovation last night we look forward to many, many more over the next 3 months – we hope to see you there…

Up on the Marquee!…

Over the past two days workers have been beavering away transforming the front of our theatre into a giant marquee for Disney’s The Lion King.

Yesterday two people spent a total of 12 hours converting the 11.5 meter wide x 9 meter high glass structure into a colossal image from the multi-award winning production.

Earlier this morning the final signage was completed with the usual show banner at the side of the building being draped with the famous lion’s head logo.

Preparations continue throughout the day and night inside the building ahead of opening night this Friday…when are you coming along?

Take a look at the images below for a look at the transformation and you can watch a quick instagram video of the process here.
