It’s finally here!

Tonight we open Mariinsky Theatre’s epic scale production of Wagner’s Ring Cycle with the first in four operas, Das Rheingold.

Over the next five days this huge undertaking will see over 250 cast members, crew and orchestra, all of whom have flown over from St. Petersburg, take to the Hippodrome stage.

The huge sets for this rare event have taken over the theatre, even requiring a special marquee on the back scenic dock to hold an overflow of gigantic statues and relics used in the production.

Experience a once in a lifetime event for a fraction of the cost…

This November, Birmingham Hippodrome will present a once in a lifetime event as Wagner’s epic Ring Cycle conducted by Maestro Valery Gergiev with his world-famous Mariinsky Opera makes its Birmingham Hippodrome debut with four performances over five nights; more than 250 artists will travel from St Petersburg to Birmingham, along with 10 trucks of scenery for this large scale undertaking.

To allow as many people as possible to enjoy this special event Birmingham Hippodrome is delighted to announce 100 tickets per opera will be made available on a ballot basis at just £30 each (plus 5% transaction charge), representing a discount of up to 85% on some tickets.

Applicants are asked to email ringcycleballot@birminghamhippodrome.com with their full name, contact phone number, address and the best time to be contacted by Wednesday 29 October. Successful ticket applicants will be drawn at random and contacted by phone by Birmingham Hippodrome for payment in advance following the deadline. (Terms and conditions apply*)

This ballot for the Ring Cycle has been made possible because of BP’s support for the Mariinsky visit to Birmingham Hippodrome. Mariinsky Theatre’s presentation of Richard Wagner’s The Ring Cycle runs at Birmingham Hippodrome Wed 5 – Sun 9 November 2014 with the following four opera performance schedule:

Wednesday 5 November 2014 – Das Rheingold – 7.30pm
Thursday 6 November 2014 – Die Walküre – 5pm
Saturday 8 November 2014 – Siegfried – 5pm
Sunday 9 November 2014 – Götterdämmerung – 5pm

This November, more than 250 artists will travel from St Petersburg to Birmingham, along with 10 trucks of scenery to present a once in a lifetime event; Wagner’s Ring Cycle performed by the highly acclaimed Mariinsky Opera.

For Birmingham’s first fully-staged Ring for several decades, Conductor Valery Gergiev has assembled a stellar cast including Willard White, Ekaterina Gubanova, Andreas Schager, Vitaly Kovalyov, Mikahil Petrenko and Mlada Khudoley for the fully staged production. As well as the epic production on the main stage, we also have a programme of events for audiences who are Wagner experts right down to first-timers titled Ring Side.
