Your chance to see a dance superstar in the UK for the last time

Next month we roll out the red carpet to welcome back  dance superstar Sylvie Guillem who will perform on our stage for the very last time in the UK.

Ms Guillem will be performing Life in Progress on 8 and 9 September and tickets are in great demand for these last two performances.

We’ve  listened, and watched, two rare interviews recently recorded and we’d like to share them with you.

You can listen to Sylvie Guillem talking about her career on BBC Radio 4’s Front Row. (transmitted on Monday 10 August).

And you can watch a rare interview with Ms Guillem on BBC iplayer presented by Deborah Bull writer, presenter and Creative Director of the Royal Opera House.

These performances will be a major highlight in our theatre calendar – don’t miss your chance to see her!

Olivier Awards – Congratulations to dance superstar Sylvie Guillem, Wicked, and Crystal Pite

The Royal Opera House was the setting for last night’s Olivier awards and we are delighted that two of the productions we had on our stage last year came out on top in their respective categories.

So, huge congratulations to Crystal Pite  who won Outstanding Achievement in Dance  for her choreography of The Tempest Replica, Sadler’s Well.    Tempest Replica was  performed on our stage as part of the Award Winning International Dance Festival Birmingham 2014 which we  co-produce with our partner DanceXchange.

And congrats also go  to Wicked at the Apollo Theatre (London production) for winning the This Morning Audience Award.  Well deserved too as we really enjoyed a memorable summer run of  the touring production here at the theatre last year.

Lastly, special congratulations to dance superstar Sylvie Guillem who received a Special Award for her contribution to dance.  Ms Guillem only  ever performed on the Hippodrome stage outside London as part of the 2012 and 2014 International Dance Festivals so we  are honoured that Ms  Guillem has chosen the Hippodrome  to dance her very last UK performances here in September.

Life In Progress  features both existing and new works by choreographers who have influenced her spectacular career.  This is the last chance to see one of the world’s best-loved dancers and we are expecting huge demand for tickets.  Prior to the Hippodrome dates she will perform at Sadler’s Wells London and Edinburgh Festival.
